This book is an excellent reference book. It contains numerous examples that are complete and pointed.

Pros:
This book provides TONS of example code. This book walks the reader through each task step by step, primarily using C language examples. Pthreads, mutexes, pipes, sockets, printer spooling, and tons of other tasks are verbosely explained, and examples are provided for every task. The examples are what makes this book shine; they are easy to follow and adapt to whatever project you're working on. If this is a required book for your class, you'll likely keep it as a reference (instead of selling it back) if you're pursuing a job in this field.

Cons:
A basic knowledge of C programming in a UNIX environment is needed. The details can get a bit tedious, but are necessary for the completeness of this book
